COMMANDER'S CORNER

If you missed the Bugle earlier this month, it wasn’t your fault. I was on vacation and did not get one out until now. I had a great time on my trip back East with the camper. The weather was great and we did what we set out to do.

I want to remind everyone that in October we have a picnic at Shadowbend Park instead of the regular meeting. The picnic is October 18th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. If you haven’t been to a meeting, this would be a good one to attend. You will meet more members in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy fine camaraderie. Hot dogs and hamburgers are on the menu and bring a dish to share. Hope to see you there.

The next day we begin set up for our semiannual rummage sale. The set up will be at Robinson Road Community Center and we need all the help we can get. We will be there from 8 a.m. on till we get done. If you have something to donate, bring it then. The sale is on Saturday Oct. 20, but we sell quite a bit during set-up the day before. If you want to help in sales, or buy something be there on Saturday.

Also in October is the fall meeting of the District. It will be at the Willis Post 618 on October 27th beginning at 10 a.m. The joint session will be in the morning and the business session for the Legion and Auxiliary will be in the afternoon. If you would like to go, the Post will pay your registration fee. Let me know so I can get you registered.

MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

We approved the budget for 2007-2008. The total expected income is $7,175 while the expected expenses are $7,047 with $128 left over at the end of the year. Hope we make it.

We ordered some more entertainment booklets, so you can still buy yours if you haven’t purchased one already. The cost is $39.95. Contact Pickens Jones if you want one. His phone number is at the end of the Bugle.

We made $68 on the Putt-Putt fundraiser. Not much but interesting.

We will have a hot dog stand at the Auxiliary’s Craft Show on Nov. 10th. We will also raffle a child’s red wagon.

AUXILIARY NEWS

The Auxiliary meeting this month will be at the Picnic. If you are attending please bring a dish to share and a lantern or light if you have one. We will be unable to use the pavilion due to ongoing repairs.

On November 10th we will have our Fall Craft show. It has usually been held at the Walmart on Sawdust. This year it will be held at the Montgomery County Fair Grounds on November 10th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Please try to attend, if not to help, then to support our crafters.

POST'S COMMITTEES

The Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation committee shall supervise all matters pertaining to service to comrades in the prosecution of all just claims against the United States or state government, employment, relief, etc.
